Prepare your child for the jobs of the future

Be Part of the Future parenting community

Our world is changing faster than when we were kids. New technologies are being introduced every day. We can’t keep up with all the game apps and social media. Distance learning is becoming part of the normal while world epidemics make economies come to a sudden stop in days.

The fast pace of change makes it difficult for parents to forecast their child’s future; something our parents were able to do for us. You went to school, got a career, got a job. Now it is not that simple. We don’t know what type of jobs will be available. Will college be required for those future jobs? How will our food be produced? What environment will they live in?

One thing we can predict is that technology will be part of our child’s future. We can see a glimpse of that now. Our children are now having online playdates. Children socialize through video and texts. We need to embrace this technology to connect with our children.

All future opportunities will be tech-driven. Some say that AI (Artificial Intelligence) will be what electricity was 100 years ago. Our children will carry all their information in the palm of their hands. Medical records are already online and doctors are giving consultations via video. The world we live in now is nothing like what we grew up in. Change is scary but necessary. So HOW CAN WE PREPARE OUR CHILDREN?

Technology is not going away, so embrace it

When our parents were kids, housework was much more difficult. People did their washing by hand. Refrigerators were a luxury item and food was bought daily. It was less common for married women to work. Any new technology was feared, but eventually made housework easier.

When we were kids, we visited the Arcade to play video games with our friends. MTV music videos were our obsession and we spent our afternoons with friends from school jumping on the trampoline and having sleep overs. Our parents had other safety concerns.

Today our children can get tutored online, they can have playdates at home even when there are world epidemics preventing us from going outdoors. Technology has made it possible for companies to continue working from home and we are able to get our groceries delivered straight at home.

Let’s Learn How to prepare our Kids for the Future

Colleges, the workplace and the world of finance is changing at a pace that we cannot keep up with. Being a social influencer or a YouTuber is now a career. The Euro became the currency of almost all the countries in Europe. Cryptocurrency is a thing that is taking off now and maybe in the future our children will have a different currency.

We can’t forecast our child’s future, but we can give them the tools to make it easier. Just like we taught them to cross the street safely, we need to teach them how to use technology safely. We need to learn with them. Incorporate technology as part of family time. Play a video game with your child. Have your child show you how to use Tik Tok. Find ways to connect through technology.
